Culinary Instruction

Legacy Empowerment Services’ Culinary Instruction program is a highly engaging, inclusive service designed to help adults with disabilities build practical cooking and independent living skills in a supportive group environment. Participants gain hands-on experience with kitchen safety, meal preparation, and basic nutrition while strengthening confidence, teamwork, and self-sufficiency.

Sessions are held monthly at two convenient locations in Garfield and Cranford, increasing consistency and accessibility throughout Greater New Jersey. Lessons are thoughtfully structured to build on individual strengths while introducing new skills in a step-by-step format, ensuring participants can successfully apply what they learn at home.

Each participant receives printed recipes organized into a personal binder, and families can continue practicing together using the Legacy Virtual Cookbook.

To support participants from the very first class, newcomers are provided with a culinary-based welcome bag that includes essential cooking tools, cookbook materials, and resources to reinforce learning both in class and at home. Each class concludes with participants sharing the meal family-style, fostering community connection and a sense of belonging.
