Building Knowledge, Confidence & Greater Independence

Legacy Empowerment Services provides individualized education services that help Members strengthen academic skills, build executive functioning, prepare for important milestones, and work toward greater independence.

Education looks different for every Member. Some may be working on foundational reading, writing, or math skills. Others may be preparing for a GED, navigating college coursework, improving organization and time management, or working toward a New Jersey driver’s license.

Through the Legacy Way, instruction is adapted to each Member’s goals, learning style, strengths, and support needs. The focus is not simply on completing a lesson or passing a test, but on helping Members build practical skills they can carry into school, work, and everyday life.

Our Education Services

Functional & Academic Coaching

Functional & Academic Coaching provides individualized support for Members working toward academic, educational, and real-world learning goals.

Coaches work with Members to break larger goals into manageable steps, develop stronger learning routines, and build confidence using their skills more independently.

Support may range from foundational academics to higher-level coursework and can be adapted to the Member’s current skill level and learning needs.

Good to know: Semester packages may be available for college students.

Green Light Driver's Education

Green Light Driver’s Education prepares Members for the New Jersey Knowledge Test using an accessible curriculum designed to make driving concepts easier to understand and apply.

Instruction may include:

  • New Jersey motor vehicle laws
  • Road signs and traffic rules
  • Safe-driving principles
  • Hazard recognition
  • Defensive-driving concepts
  • Driving simulations
  • Test-taking strategies
  • Practice questions and guided review

Rather than relying only on the NJ driver manual, Legacy provides additional explanation and learning supports that can help Members better understand challenging concepts and prepare with greater confidence.

Green Light Driver’s Education is appropriate for Members who are beginning the licensing process or need additional support before taking the written knowledge test.

Good to know: This service prepares Members for the NJ Knowledge Test; it does not include on-road instruction.

Behind-the-Wheel Road Instruction

Behind-the-Wheel Road Instruction provides individualized, real-world driving practice with a certified driving instructor.

Once a Member is ready for on-road instruction, lessons focus on developing safe driving habits, vehicle control, and confidence in active community settings.

Instruction may cover:

  • Defensive driving
  • Hazard recognition
  • Vehicle control
  • Lane positioning
  • Turning
  • Parking
  • Merging
  • Navigating intersections
  • Responding to traffic conditions
  • NJ road-test preparation

The goal is to help Members move from understanding driving concepts to safely applying them behind the wheel.

Good to know: Door-to-door pickup and drop-off are included. A 72-hour cancellation notice is required.

Education Built Around the Member

There is no single path to educational success.

A Member preparing for the GED may need something very different from a college student working on organization or someone preparing for a learner’s permit. Legacy begins by understanding the Member’s goals and identifying the type of support that will be most useful.

Depending on the service, instruction may be provided:

  • Individually
  • In a group setting
  • Virtually
  • In person

This flexibility allows Members to learn in an environment that supports their comfort, participation, and progress.

Skills That Support Life Beyond the Lesson

Legacy’s Education services are designed to strengthen more than academic knowledge.

Members may also build skills related to:

  • Planning and organization
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Self-advocacy
  • Time management
  • Focus and follow-through
  • Decision-making
  • Confidence
  • Community access
  • Greater independence

These skills can support future goals in education, employment, transportation, and everyday life.

Take the Next Step

Whether the goal is strengthening academic skills, preparing for a GED, navigating college coursework, passing the NJ Knowledge Test, or developing confidence behind the wheel, Legacy provides individualized support designed around the Member.
