Practical support that helps Members build stronger routines, greater confidence, and more independence in everyday life.
Independent living looks different for every person. One Member may be working on budgeting, cooking, or managing a home, while another may need support with personal care, emotional regulation, communication, or participating more comfortably in the community.
Legacy Empowerment Services brings these needs together under a flexible Independent Living program. Services are designed around the Member’s goals and focus on practical skills that can be used at home, at work, and throughout the community.
Personalized coaching for the everyday skills that support greater independence. Depending on the Member’s goals, sessions may focus on budgeting, meal preparation, hygiene, health management, home safety, organization, community navigation, public transportation, time management, or self-advocacy. Coaches help Members build routines they can understand, practice, and use with increasing independence.
Coaching that supports emotional and sensory regulation, stress management, coping skills, self-awareness, resilience, and healthy lifestyle habits. Members work on strategies they can use in real situations so they are better prepared to manage stress, navigate changing environments, and participate with greater confidence.
A structured coaching service for Members who need help creating a safer, more functional, and more manageable home environment. Support may include organizing systems, sustainable routines, visual task strategies, and practical ways to maintain progress over time.
Support with supervision, encouragement, cueing, interpersonal skills, and participation in recreational, social, educational, volunteer, and community activities. Companion Services can help Members participate safely while strengthening social confidence, community involvement, and natural supports.
One-to-one help with personal care and daily routines based on the Member’s individual needs. Support may include hygiene, grooming, dressing, mobility, meal preparation, household routines, medication reminders, and other activities of daily living.
In-person or virtual interpretation and communication support for appointments, service planning, education, employment, and community activities. The goal is to remove communication barriers so Members and families can participate more fully and make informed decisions.
Accessible group instruction that combines practical cooking skills with confidence, teamwork, and independent living. Members may work on meal planning, ingredient selection, portion control, kitchen sanitation, foundational cooking techniques, communication, and task completion. Classes are hosted monthly in Cranford and Garfield.
Supported small-group experiences that help Members build community navigation, social participation, peer engagement, and confidence in real-world settings. Programming runs twice monthly and may include activities such as bowling, art events, football games, and other community experiences.
Structured group recreation, wellness activities, social events, peer connection, and routine building. These services give Members additional opportunities to stay active, try new experiences, and develop comfort participating with others.
Legacy’s Independent Living services are intended to be practical and individualized. The right combination of services can help Members strengthen daily functioning, build self-advocacy, and take a more active role in the routines and communities that matter to them.
